Fedorov–Volodkina index: scale and interpretation

This index quantifies disclosed plaque on anterior teeth. In the classical method, each examined surface is scored from 1 to 5 and the scores are averaged.

Classical method

The vestibular surfaces of six lower anterior teeth are disclosed and examined. A score of 1 means no disclosed plaque and 5 means that the full crown surface is stained. The total is divided by the number of examined teeth.

Interpretation

1.0–1.5: good
1.6–2.0: satisfactory
2.1–2.5: unsatisfactory
2.6–3.4: poor
3.5–5.0: very poor
